To foster closer ties among the alumni, the Hwa Chong Alumni Association Youth Chapter is proud to organize the first Finance Roundtable 2010. We’ve invited several experienced industry insiders and alumni to give their thoughts on the industry’s future and to share their personal experiences. The list of invited speakers are as follows:

Keynote 1

Short Profile:

Executive Chairman and CEO of UPP Holdings Limited

Former Head of Singapore Consulate, Shanghai

Former Senior Vice President, GIC Special Investments Pte Ltd

Long profile:

Mr. Koh was appointed the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of UPP Holdings Limited on 1 August 2010. He is responsible for the business direction, strategies and development of the Group.

Mr. Koh brings to the group extensive experience and knowledge, having held senior positions in both the public and private sectors. He served several portfolios in Singapore Government’s Administrative Service. He was head of the Singapore Consulate in Shanghai and was also Senior Vice President of GIC Special Investments Pte Ltd. Mr. Koh has extensive work experience in Europe and Asia, and is particularly familiar with China. He has helmed listed companies in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Short Profile:

Corporate Finance Lawyer, Lee & Lee

Long Profile:

Joel Teo is a corporate finance lawyer in the corporate department of Lee & Lee, Advocates and Solicitors.  He specializes in capital markets, corporate and M&A transactions, investment funds and private equity.  He is into his fifth year of legal practice in Singapore and has a particular interest in green technology and PRC transactions.  He is currently involved in the listing of a famous Singapore chain on Catalist and advising an SGX main board listed company in relation to its HK$366 million fund raising exercise.

Joel graduated with a Bachelors of Laws (LLB) from the National University of Singapore in 2005 and was called to the Singapore bar in 2006.  He graduated in 2009 with a Master of Laws (LLM) with a specialization in Corporate and Commercial Law from the University of London (Queen Mary) and was admitted as a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Member grade) in the same year.  He is also the author of the chapter on the Singapore legal history of water in the book entitled Encounters with Singapore Legal History – Essays in Memory of Geoffrey Wilson Bartholomew which was published by the Singapore Journal of Legal Studies”.

Author of “The Way of the VC”

Long Profile:

Tan Yinglan is the author of The Way Of the VC: Having Top Venture Capitalists On Your Board (Wiley, 2009) and Chinnovation – How Chinese Innovators are going to Change the World (Wiley 2010). Tan Yinglan had previously been the first Director for China, 3i Venturelab, INSEAD, a joint-venture between private equity firm 3i (LSE:III) and INSEAD where he worked closely with senior management in Asia to develop strategies for growth and IPO/trade sales. Yinglan was selected as one of the first international Kauffman Fellows from Singapore. He is serving / has served on boards of growth ventures, venture capital funds in Asia and a U.S. private-equity fund of funds.

He has been featured on China Central TV (China’s largest TV network), Dragon TV, The Deal, China Daily, Korean Times, Business FM 89.9 (Malaysian), The Edge (Singapore) and Business Lines (India). Prior to NTU, Yinglan has taught modules (as an Adjunct Faulty) on Entrepreneurial Finance and Entrepreneurial Management at the Singapore Management University Lee Kong Chian Graduate School of Business and at the Advanced Management Programme.

Yinglan was educated at Harvard (where he is a John F. Kennedy Fellow), Stanford and Carnegie Mellon. Yinglan has been named as one of 100 Leaders Of Tomorrow by the St Gallen Symposium in 2010. A certified Risk Analyst, he now works in the government to enhance the entrepreneurial landscape in Singapore as the Head of Projects, National Research Foundation, Prime Minister’s Office. Previously, Yinglan was also a Senior Assistant Director at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore).

M & A, Deutsche Bank (Singapore)

Long Profile:

Tze Wei works in investment banking at Deutsche Bank in Singapore, where he helps companies in South East Asia raise capital or execute merger and acquisition transactions. He has worked in investment banking for five years and started his career at Merrill Lynch in London.

Tze Wei studied economics, finance and mathematics at the London School of Economics and Cambridge University, where he earned a BSc (1st class) and masters degree.

Co-founder, 3V SourceOne Capital

Chairman of the Industry Development Committee of the Singapore Venture Capital and Private Equity Association

Long Profile:

Mr Tan is based in Singapore and is a co-founder of 3V SourceOne Capital. He brings with him 19 years of venture capital management and banking experience in addition to 5 years of operating experience within the IT and electronics industries. He is the Chairman of the Industry Development Committee of the Singapore Venture Capital & Private Equity Association and has previously served as the Treasurer.

Equity Analyst, Nomura Securities Co. Ltd

Long Profile:

Takanori Inada is an Equity Analyst at Nomura Securities Co. Ltd. He first joined Nomura as a junior analyst in 2005 and was actively involved in numerous projects carried out by private companies and national government committees in the Construction sector. He was ranked 13th by Nikkei as one of the quickest and youngest analysts in the construction sector.

Takanori further developed into Japan’s first and only analyst dedicated to the housing equipment industry in Japan. He has published more than 100 reports in this area and has also contributed to the Brokers Review. Additionally, through his publications, he introduced major Japanese companies in the housing equipment industry to investors in various international financial markets and this resulted in the purchase of Rinnai in October 2008.

Takanori’s experience and expertise in his field of work has seen him presenting his analysis on national television and earned him recognition by Nikkei and Bloomberg. He also published an international investment report focusing on global warming before COP15 with a team of foreign analysts.

Takanori is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Business Administration at the National University of Singapore as a sponsored student by Nomura. He graduated from Kyoto University with a Bachelor of Engineering and Masters of Engineering.

Mr Kazumasa Tomita

Private Banker, Nomura Singapore Ltd

Long Profile:

Kazumasa Tomita is a private banker at Nomura Singapore Ltd who graduated from Hitotubashi Unversity’s Economics department. He first joined Nomura in 2006 as a financial consultant in Ogikubo, Japan where his outstanding work performance resulted in his promotion to a wealth manager in 2008.

As a wealth manager, Kazumasa earned the record of being the youngest person in Nomura to win the executive prize for top sales in the Nomura offices around the Tokyo area. He was transferred to the Private Banking Department at Nomura’s headquarters and has handled several transactions with listed companies and high net worth individuals.

Kazumasa joined Nomura Singapore Ltd in 2010 and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Wealth Management at the Singapore Management University.

Mr Teh Pei Jing Mr Teh Pei Jing

Long Profile:

Mr Teh Peijing graduated from Rice University (Houston, Texas) in 2006, with a bachelor of science (in chemical physics). He first joined UBS Investment Bank (Hong Kong) as an investment banking analyst from 2007-2008, where he completed two IPO deals. Subsequently, he joined Blue Water Financials, a proprietary futures day-trading firm. Currently, he is a Senior Officer under the Economic Development Board.
