Hwa Chong Alumni have been known to be active in the business community. Alumni members have outstanding achievements in the Technopreneurship and venture capital investment circles. This roundtable session is part of the overall effort to bring together alumni members who are active in entrepreneurship to network and build a value creating Hwa Chong Entrepreneurship network. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

David Sin

David Sin

David is currently managing his own real estate and investment firm, focused on investing in companies and assets in Singapore and Asia. Previously, he worked at AIG and Goldman Sachs in London and Hong Kong. He has worked across different continents and has also lived in UK, USA, Hong Kong for over a decade. His work experience includes mergers and acquisitions, private equity, real estate, distressed debt and special situations investing.

David is an Alumnus of Hwa Chong Institution and is currently the Course Instructor for the Entrepreneurial Leadership Programme (ELP) at Hwa Chong Institution. The ELP’s objective is to allow the students to learn about key leadership values through an innovative case study method; where students will learn through placing themselves in the position of the protagonists; and through experiential learning, discussion and reflection, draw their own lessons on becoming entrepreneurial leaders. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Hwa Chong International School.

Tan Yinglan

Tan Yinglan is Venture Partner at Sequoia Capital India, based in Singapore. Prior to joining Sequoia Capital India, Tan Yinglan was the Head (Projects), National Research Foundation, Prime Minister’s Office (Singapore). He oversaw the National Framework for Innovation and Enterprise and was responsible for the investments of high-tech growth ventures and venture capital funds and serves as board member / observer of selected high-tech ventures and early stage venture funds. He was responsible for launching the Technological Incubation Scheme (TIS) and the Global Entrepreneur Executives (GEE) Fund. Tan Yinglan had previously been the founding Director of 3i Venturelab China, a joint-venture between private equity firm 3i (LSE:III) and INSEAD. He had also been the Senior Assistant Director at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore), where he was the deskhead for Economic Development Board Investments portfolio. Yinglan had been at the Ministry of Defence (Singapore) where he was the recipient of the National Innovation and Quality Circle Award. Yinglan was also the Special Assistant to the Chief Economic Advisor of the World Bank, as a Milton and Cynthia Friedman Fellow. During graduate school at Stanford, he had co-founded, raised angel funding and sold an online dating startup (which is still featured as a case study in Stanford).

Darius Cheung

Darius Cheung is the Director of Consumer Mobile Technology at McAfee He currently oversees all activities for the Consumer Mobile Business Unit for McAfee globally. Darius’ teams are involved in the product development, business development, partnerships and continual innovation of the fast moving mobile product portfolio.

Darius joined McAfee in August 2010 through McAfee’s acquisition of tenCubePte Ltd, whose flagship product WaveSecure continues to be offered by McAfee. As founder and CEO of tenCube, Darius build tenCube from the founding team of 4 to a team of 26 people in 2 locations over 5 years. He raised 2 rounds of financing, developed award-winning mobile security suite WaveSecure, gained adoption by global brand customers such as Nokia and SingTel and brought the start-up to profitability.

Darius is also the CEO/ Co Founder of Billpin.

John Tan

John is a Partner at 8 Capita, an investment partnership focused on internet and mobile companies. He is the Founder of SaturdayKids, a technology school for children. He sits on the Board of Orita Sinclair School of Design, as well as car rental portal Before technology and education, John dabbled in F&B for a while. John started his career as a management consultant. He holds a First Class (Hons) degree in Economics from University College London.”

Lim Der Shing

Der Shing is founder and CEO of JobsCentral Group. Since 2000, he has led the business and grown it into one of the largest online recruitment services regionally reaching over 20 million working professionals annually in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. JobsCentral services include the popular BrightSparks portal, career magazines and the popular JobsCentral job portal. In 2011, JobsCentral joined the CareerBuilder family and is now part of the largest job portal in the world. He is also an active angel investor and is a Venture Partner with Jungle Ventures. To date he has personally invested over 2M into private equity and VC/Angel investments.

Eric Koh

Eric graduated from CHS in 1991, and HCJC in 1993.

He went on to complete his Masters in Computing in NUS, and was a scholar at PSA.

In 2002 he joined his CHS classmate in building JobsCentral, a career media company.

Having sold off that business a couple years back, he is now working on his latest travel technology startup,

Eric views his work as a hobby and a form of art. He always strive for innovation, elegance and humour in all his creations.
In his free time, he indulges himself with online games, contract bridge, japanese anime/manga and DIY Hi-Fi systems.

And oh he also loves his family and kids a lot, and does some angel investing on the side…

Wong Hong Ting

Hong Ting is the Co-Founder of 2359 Media Pte Ltd, Singapore’s leading mobile consultancy that helps create value for businesses through innovative use of mobility-centric solutions. Academically trained in Quantitative Finance from NUS, he has notable experiences in product management, marketing and event management, including being part of an enterprise software company in the Silicon Valley and propelling a Singaporean leadership consultancy to become one of the market leaders in the industry. In his current role, he was awarded Singapore’s Young Entrepreneur of 2010 as part of the Global Student Entrepreneur Award organised by the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation.

An active citizen in entrepreneurship communities, Hong Ting is an active contributor to the NUS Overseas College Alumni Network, and was the President of the Asia-Pacific Student Entrepreneurship Society (ASES) Singapore Chapter.

Currently, other than being a spokesperson on the opportunities that lie in the mobile applications industry as part of 2359 Media, Hong Ting also actively consults organizations on leveraging technology to increase their efficiency and to better support existing customers while reaching out to new ones.

Chong Chee Wah

Mr. Chong Chee Wah, is the Partner and Co-Founder of Clearbridge Accelerator, a National Research Foundation appointed Incubator under Technology Incubation Scheme (TIS). Under the TIS scheme, Chee Wah actively invests and founded many innovative start ups in the Biomedical, MedTech and Advanced Material space. In one of the start-ups that he has founded, he has also successfully turn a lab prototype into a medical device that is on sale in market within 18 months.

Prior to this, Mr Chong was with DSO National Laboratories, a national R&D house for Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). He was a Programme Manager for Communications Security which oversaw various cryptographic and communication systems. He also won the prestigious KINETIC Award in DSO, for his technical contributions in a high-profile project, as well as numerous Performance Awards in
various high profile projects.

Besides being a MedTech Technopreneur, Mr Chong is also Professional Information Security Practioner. He is currently the Managing Director for CBIS Labs Pte Ltd which is the first approved Information Security Testing Laboratory for Singapore Government. He
plays an active role in the Information Security community, serving as Member of the Association of Information Security Professionals (AISP) as well as Singapore Computer Society (SCS).

Mr Chong is also the recipient of the Local Merit Public Service Commission (PSC) scholarship as well as the NUS Research Scholarship. He also holds the Stanford Certified Project Manager (SCPM) certification. Mr Chong holds a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor Degree (First Class Honours) in Electrical Engineering.
