PvsP 2010

Heyo Hwachongians!,

The Past vs. Present is an annual event organised and held by the Hwa Chong Alumni Association Youth Chapter. This event promises to be a day of fun, bring both past and present students of Hwa Chong together at their alma mater for various sporting competitions. The games that are contested include Basketball, Street Soccer, Captain’s Ball, Volleyball, Floorball and Handball.

Time: 8am – 4pm
Venue: Hwa Chong Institution (College)

Spike2010 is a beach volleyball that aims to promote social cohesion through beach volleyball by strengthening community bonds. The event will be held on the 31st of July at Sentosa Tanjong Beach. It is jointly organised by Hwa Chong Alumni Association Youth Chapter (HCAAYC) as well as Siglap South CC Youth Executive Committee (YEC). It is also sanctioned by Volleyball Association of Singapore (VAS).

Hey Hwachongians!

Feeling stressed about all the workload and tests coming up? Wanna take a break before diving back into all that work?

Here’s an event just for you – SPIKE2010!
SPIKE 2010 is a beach volleyball tournament held on the pristine sands of Tanjong Beach, on the 31st of July (Sat) from 8:30 am – 6:30 pm. This event is organised by Hwa Chong Alumni Association Youth Chapter, and we hope all HwaChongians can be part of this great event. So, form your teams with your fellow HwaChongians now!

There are 2 categories you can sign up for:
- Men’s Elite 2 on 2
- Mixed 4 on 4

If you want to battle best in the league, grab a partner and put your name down for the Men’s Elite 2 on 2. Here, elite players from all over the island gather to compete against one another for the title of Men’s Elite Champion. Be ready for some real action!

For the more recreational players who just want to enjoy beach volleyball for all it has to offer, don’t fret! We have just thing for you. Form a team of 4-6 players and join the 4 on 4 mixed category to enjoy beach volleyball with many matches!

Prizes are as follows:

Mixed 4 on 4
1st Prize: $600 plus vouchers
2nd Prize: $300 plus vouchers
3rd Prize: $200 plus vouchers

Men’s Elite 2 on 2
1st Prize: $250 plus vochers
2nd Prize : $150 plus vouchers

More Academic Achievements

The Youth Chapter would like to congratulate Hwa Chong Institution’s other recent academic achievements:

For the Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament Online Competition:

Six HCI students went through the competition overnight from 12 midnight to 6 am on 21 Feb. They emerged top in the team category, beating world-best schools like USA’s Thomas Jefferson. For more details of the individual and team results, please visit their site.

And the South-east Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Science Congress:

In the recent SEAMEO Search for Young Scientists Regional Science Congress held in Penang, one of our teams which represented Singapore won the “Most promising young scientist” award which come with a huge trophy and 1000 ringgits. This is the highest award given out during the congress.

The second team won a consolation prize.

A Levels Results Day

Hwa Chong Alumni Association Youth Chapter would like to congratulate our juniors for the amazing results for Singapore-Cambridge A Levels of the 2009 Graduating Batch:

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

Hwa Chong is the top performing school in Math and Science.
92 students scored a perfect score. This is a record in three years.
As with last year’s record-breaking performance, 696 students scored at least 3 H2 Distinctions and above.
An impressive 216 students scored 7 Distinctions and more.
180 students scored at least one H3 distinction and better.

INDIVIDUAL SUBJECT PERFORMANCE

Our students attained a record-breaking performance in General Paper, with 4 out of 10 scoring a Distinction. This is double the national average for the third year running.

9 out of 10 students scored Distinction in H2 Biology, up from 8 last year. This is double the National Average.

8 out of 10 scored Distinction for H2 Physics, double the National Average.

In addition, 4 students were awarded The Institute of Physics Gold Medal for Excellence in Physics.

8 out of 10 students scored a Distinction in H2 Mathematics, for the third year running.

8 out of 10 scored a Distinction for H2 Art.

7 out of 10 students scored a Distinction in H2 Geography, more than double the National Average.

7 out of 10 scored a Distinction for H2 Chemistry, for the second year running. This is double the National Average.

7 out of 10 scored a Distinction for Knowledge and Inquiry and H2 Literature in English.

We attained a 100% Distinction rate for H1 and H2 German and H1 French.

We also attained 100% Distinction rate for H1 Geography, 3 times the National average.

For Project Work, with close to 9 out of 10 attaining a Distinction.
